Rally 2020 will start from Urbino and will cross the medieval cities of Urbania, Mercatello sul Metauro and Sansepolcro, following the footsteps of the Renaissance artists such as Piero della Francesca. Their historical centres are still originally preserved, and prosperous in museums, palaces and churches which host splendid paintings, as the 14th-century Cathedral of San Giovanni Evangelista and the Museo Civico in San Sepolcro. On the ancient Roman road Via Flaminia, we will cross the Apennines to the east along a particularly picturesque route, surrounded by hills rich in vineyards and olive groves.
The itinerary will cover some of the most significant sites in the Marche and in Umbria along the spectacular hills, discovering several medieval cities: among those Gubbio is famous for the unforgettable views from Piazza Grande, and Torgiano in Umbria, a little town completely dedicated to the culture of wine, which hosts the awarded Wine Museum. Another stage will be in Todi, which is encircled by three sets of concentric walls, each from a different historical era: Etruscan, Roman and from the Middle Ages.
The final stage will take place in the "Tuscia" countryside, driving west toward Lazio, near the rivers of Bolsena lake, where the most important Farnese Family Villas are hidden as an unknown secret. Then, we will touch Orvieto which hosts one of Italy's greatest Gothic churches, and Civita di Bagnoregio, the so-called "dying city" with its nowadays still preserved medieval centre.
As always the Carovana Romantica is a non-competitive rally that offers participants a journey to discover food and wine traditions, monuments and natural beauties, routes and unique Italian landscapes.
